Tips for winter excursions in Gmunden
Winter in Austria wraps the country in a soft, silvery blanket of snow and lends a special magic to the dark season. When the first frost flowers appear on the windows and the scent of mulled wine and cinnamon fills the cold, crisp air, the Christmas season is near. In Gmunden, the idyllic town on Lake Traunsee, Advent becomes a feast for the senses, full of unforgettable moments in one of Austria’s most beautiful regions. If you visit the Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur, for example, you will discover a festively decorated gem- and perhaps a gift or two for your loved ones.

Lake Traunsee & Schloss Orth
A well-known sight in Gmunden is the “Schloss Orth”, which has its origins in the 9th century. It is located on a small island and is connected to the mainland by a wooden bridge. The lakeside castle is one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut and is the perfect place to experience the magic of Christmas. The glamorous Christmas market in the centre of Gmunden also invites you to linger. With handicrafts and delicacies, it shines between lights and sounds in the narrow alleyways and on the historic squares – creating a magic all of its own. Lovingly decorated stalls tempt visitors with regional specialities and fragrant Christmas treats, while music and lighting create a warm Advent atmosphere.
